SEHWAN: Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah has directed officials to complete development and beautification work around the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar before the annual Urs in January 2027.
The Sindh government has allocated Rs1.28 billion for the development scheme. Shah has set December 31, 2026, as the deadline to complete the work and prepare the shrine area for pilgrims.
Rs1.28 Billion Sehwan Development Scheme
Shah issued the directions during a Zoom meeting that reviewed development work in Sehwan. Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner Ghazanfar Qadri and other officials joined the meeting from Sehwan.
According to Qadri, officials completed some parts of the development scheme during the 2025-26 fiscal year. Departments will complete the remaining work during the current fiscal year.
The ongoing projects include:
- Construction of a dual carriageway from College Chowk to the shrine of Bodlo Bahar
- Strengthening of the Old Alam Pak with iron work
- Installation of new marble flooring at the shrine
- Development of the musafir khana and chillah gah at Lal Bagh
- Improvement of the road connecting the Bodlo Bahar shrine with the bazaar
The new marble flooring will make the shrine more comfortable for visitors during the summer.
Roads, Drainage and Water Facilities
The development plan also covers roads leading to Sehwan and the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
Officials will improve drainage systems, water supply, streetlights and pedestrian facilities to make travel and movement easier for devotees.
The government will also recondition the dual carriageway from Jahaz Chowk in Sehwan to the entrance of Government Degree College Sehwan through Sehwan-Dadu Road.
The project includes paver blocks, footpaths, solar streetlights, drainage facilities and improvements to the water supply system.
Chief Secretary Sets December Deadline
The chief secretary directed the Jamshoro deputy commissioner and relevant departments to complete all projects before the Urs begins.
He said officials must prioritise the safety and convenience of devotees. He also directed departments to ensure that roads, drainage systems, streetlights, footpaths and water supply facilities become fully operational before the Urs.
Shah also ordered officials to coordinate road construction with drainage and water supply work. This approach will help prevent departments from damaging newly constructed roads during subsequent work.
He further directed officials to remove encroachments from routes that devotees use to reach the shrine.
Officials Ordered to Monitor Construction Quality
The chief secretary also reviewed major development projects in Hyderabad and directed officials to complete them within their approved timelines.
He ordered regular technical inspections, proper testing of construction materials and transparent use of public funds. He also instructed officials to maintain adequate safety arrangements at project sites.
Hyderabad Division Commissioner Fayyaz Abbasi will oversee implementation, identify bottlenecks and coordinate their resolution. The chief secretary also directed the commissioner and Jamshoro deputy commissioner to conduct regular field inspections and monitor the progress and quality of the development work.
The directions aim to ensure that key infrastructure around the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine in Sehwan becomes ready before the January 2027 Urs, when large numbers of devotees visit the city.
