LAHORE: The Punjab government has planned a major upgrade of Lahore’s Ferozepur Road to improve road conditions, pedestrian facilities and commercial areas along the busy corridor.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has prepared a comprehensive redevelopment plan covering around 15 kilometers from Lahore Canal to Gajjumata. The LDA Engineering Wing designed the plan around sustainable development principles and used Gulberg’s development model as a reference.
Ferozepur Road Upgrade Plan
The project will focus on improving both the road infrastructure and the areas surrounding Ferozepur Road.
The proposed improvements include:
- Rehabilitation of the road
- New sidewalks and walkways
- Tiled pedestrian areas
- Dedicated seating spaces
- Improved signboards
- Standardized building exterior designs
- Better pedestrian access along commercial areas
The LDA also plans to improve markets along Ferozepur Road and create dedicated walking spaces in front of shops. The authority has taken inspiration from the market rehabilitation approach used in Ichhra.
LDA records also identify Ferozepur Road as an important Lahore arterial route that carries heavy traffic and connects several secondary roads and commercial areas. (Lahore Development Authority)
Maryam Nawaz Directs Immediate Road Rehabilitation
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently visited Ferozepur Road, Nishtar and Youhanabad and inspected the condition of the roads.
She took notice of potholes and damaged road surfaces and directed the LDA to take immediate measures for rehabilitation. The chief minister also shared an update on August 24 showing that work had started on the revamp of Ferozepur Road. (ProPakistani)
The latest plan builds on earlier efforts to improve Ferozepur Road. LDA documents have previously identified road rehabilitation, lane markings, signage and related infrastructure improvements as key requirements for the corridor. (Lahore Development Authority)
Better Facilities for Pedestrians and Businesses
The proposed redevelopment goes beyond repairing damaged road surfaces. The LDA plans to create a more organized environment for pedestrians, shops and commercial markets.
Dedicated walking areas could help improve pedestrian movement, while standardized signage and building exteriors could give the corridor a more uniform appearance.
The project aims to improve one of Lahore’s busiest road corridors while making Ferozepur Road more accessible and organized for commuters, pedestrians and businesses.
