Kutchery Chowk Signal-Free Corridor Opens to Traffic After Official Inauguration

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially inaugurated the Marka-e-Haq Square at Rawalpindi’s Kutchery Chowk, opening the much-awaited signal-free corridor project for public use. The project is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at one of the busiest intersections in the city.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Kutchery Chowk was formally renamed Marka-e-Haq Square. The large-scale infrastructure project was launched to address heavy traffic pressure in the area, where thousands of vehicles pass daily.

After inaugurating the corridor, the chief minister visited different sections of the project, including the overhead bridge and surrounding roads. She also reviewed progress on the Annexe Chowk to GPO Chowk signal-free corridor project currently under development in Rawalpindi.

Punjab Minister for Communications and Works Sohaib Ahmed Bharath briefed the chief minister on the project details. According to officials, more than 200,000 vehicles will be able to use the signal-free corridor every day, significantly improving traffic movement across the city.

The Rs. 19 billion Kutchery Chowk Remodeling Project includes two flyovers, three underpasses, and modern pedestrian facilities. Authorities said the project was originally scheduled for completion within 18 months, but construction work was finished ahead of time.

Under the new naming plan, the Kutchery Chowk flyover and underpass have been named Marka-e-Haq Flyover and Underpass. The Jinnah Park structures have been named Jinnah Flyover and Jinnah Underpass, while the third underpass has been named Iftikhar Janjua Underpass.

Officials also confirmed that a modern pedestrian bridge has been constructed at Marka-e-Haq Square to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians. The chief minister said the project would transform Rawalpindi’s urban traffic system and provide long-term relief to commuters.

The new signal-free corridor is expected to greatly reduce traffic congestion around Kutchery Chowk, which connects several important roads in Rawalpindi. The project is also expected to shorten travel times and improve daily commuting for residents traveling through one of the city’s busiest traffic hubs.
