The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi and several districts of Sindh. It warned that very hot and dry weather will continue over the weekend and into early next week.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in Karachi could reach around 38°C on Saturday and rise to about 40°C on Sunday. By Monday, the temperature may exceed 41°C. Due to high humidity, the “feels-like” temperature could go as high as 49–50°C.
The three-day forecast shows that humidity will stay high. It is expected to be around 45% on Saturday and may rise to 70% on Sunday morning. On Monday, humidity will likely remain between 40% and 50% during the day.
The PMD also said that central and upper parts of Sindh will face extreme heat. Temperatures in districts such as Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur may stay 3 to 5°C above normal levels.
In addition, strong winds and dust storms are expected in some areas, including Jacobabad, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, and Sukkur. These winds could damage weak buildings and solar panels.
The Met Office has advised people to avoid going out in direct sunlight, drink more water, and take safety measures. Special care is recommended for children, women, and the elderly. Farmers have also been advised to manage their crops carefully and protect livestock during the heatwave.
