Hyundai Elantra 1.6 Special Edition Deliveries Begin in Pakistan, Three Months After Launch

LAHORE — Hyundai Nishat Motors said deliveries of the Elantra 1.6 Special Edition will begin this month, nearly three months after the company introduced the trim in Pakistan’s mid-size sedan segment.

The Special Edition carries an introductory ex-factory price of Rs 6,449,000, unchanged since its debut in May. Hyundai Nishat is accepting bookings against a partial payment of Rs 1.5 million, while customers who pay the full amount upfront can lock in the current price ahead of any future revision. The company is offering a four-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.

Launch and Delivery Timeline

Hyundai Nishat teased the Special Edition on social media in early May before formally unveiling it on May 12, adding the trim to the existing Elantra 1.6-liter lineup rather than launching an entirely new model. Bookings opened the same month. At the time, delivery estimates circulating among dealers and industry outlets pointed to a late-July start; Hyundai Nishat has now confirmed deliveries begin in August, roughly three months after the initial reveal. The company said customers can inspect the vehicle and place orders at its 3S dealerships — facilities combining sales, service and spare-parts operations — across Pakistan.

Features and Equipment

The Special Edition package adds a set of exterior, interior and convenience equipment on top of the standard Elantra 1.6 trim. Exterior additions include Tetra LED auto headlamps with daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps, black side mirrors and door visors, and a rear spoiler with smart trunk operation. Inside, the car adds a powered sunroof, push-button start with smart entry, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with two-way lumbar support, a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather gear-shift knob, rear air-conditioning vents, cruise control and a wireless smartphone charger. The car offers four driver-selectable modes: Normal, Eco, Sport and Smart.

Engine, Transmission and Powertrain

Mechanically, the Special Edition retains the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter multi-point injection petrol engine used across the Elantra 1.6 range, producing 126 horsepower and 155 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Hyundai Nishat has not published a separate fuel-consumption figure for the Special Edition. The model uses a conventional gasoline powertrain only; it carries no hybrid or plug-in components, and there is no battery capacity or electric range associated with this variant. Hyundai’s only electrified sedan sold in Pakistan remains the separately marketed Elantra Hybrid, which pairs a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor.

Safety Equipment

Hyundai Nishat’s announcement centered on comfort and technology additions rather than changes to occupant-safety hardware. Across the wider Elantra 1.6 range in Pakistan, standard safety provisions have included dual airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and a rear-view camera. Hyundai Nishat did not specify whether the Special Edition’s safety equipment differs from that of the standard 1.6 trim.

Market Positioning and Competitors

At Rs 6,449,000, the Special Edition is priced below Rs 7 million, positioning it beneath Hyundai’s own Elantra 2.0 Limited Edition, listed from Rs 6,850,000, and well below the Elantra Hybrid, introduced in 2024 at Rs 9,699,999 and now listed from Rs 9,895,000. It also undercuts the Honda Civic, whose Standard variant starts at Rs 8,499,000 in Pakistan, and Hyundai’s own Sonata, which starts at Rs 10,330,000. Its closest pricing overlap is with the Toyota Corolla Altis, which spans roughly Rs 6,202,000 to Rs 7,709,000 ex-factory across its 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter variants. Hyundai Nishat has positioned the Special Edition within that band, combining a sunroof, wireless charging and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with a sub-Rs 7 million price — equipment not uniformly available across Corolla Altis trims at similar cost.

Industry Background

Hyundai Nishat Motors is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Co. and Pakistan’s Nishat Group, formed after Hyundai returned to local vehicle assembly in the country. Hyundai had previously assembled cars in Pakistan through partner Dewan Farooque Motors from 1998 until that venture ceased operations in 2004. The current joint venture broke ground on a plant in Faisalabad’s M3 Industrial City in December 2017, began production in January 2020 with the Porter H-100 pickup, and added the Tucson SUV later that year, followed by the Elantra sedan in 2021. The Elantra sold in Pakistan is the seventh-generation model, assembled locally at the Faisalabad facility. Hyundai Nishat’s current Pakistan lineup, per the company’s own listings, spans the Elantra 1.6 Special Edition, Elantra 2.0 Limited Edition and Elantra Hybrid, the Sonata and Sonata N Line, Tucson Hybrid, Santa Fe Hybrid and Palisade Hybrid SUVs, the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 electric models, and the Porter H-100 commercial pickup. Under Pakistan’s auto sector policy framework, locally assembled vehicles are subject to different tariff treatment than imports, a structure successive governments have used to encourage local manufacturing investment of the kind Hyundai and Nishat Group made in Faisalabad. Hyundai Nishat has periodically added special and limited editions to the Elantra range — including the 2.0 Limited Edition launched in late 2025 — introducing additional equipment to existing trims without a full model change.

Consumer Impact and Outlook

The launch comes as Pakistan’s sedan segment faces increased competition from crossovers and SUVs, which have drawn a growing share of buyer attention in recent years, with higher seating positions and perceived practicality cited by industry watchers as part of the appeal. By adding equipment typically reserved for higher trims to a sub-Rs 7 million model, Hyundai Nishat is aiming to hold on to sedan buyers who might otherwise consider a compact crossover or a costlier sedan such as the Civic. Deliveries beginning this month will offer an early read on demand for the mid-tier trim, as Hyundai Nishat continues to build out the Elantra range across price points alongside its 2.0-liter and hybrid offerings.

Hyundai Nishat said on-road pricing will vary by city and registration costs, and that interested buyers can arrange test drives and bookings through its dealer network.
