Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has responded after receiving a two-year ban from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying he never signed a formal contract and therefore did not break any agreement.
Muzarabani was expected to play for Islamabad United in PSL 11. However, he later withdrew and joined Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League as a replacement player.
In a statement shared by his representatives, the player’s camp said they remained silent for several weeks to avoid increasing tensions. They added that growing criticism on social media forced them to clarify the situation.
According to the statement, an agreement was reached on February 13, but it depended on a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket. His representatives said this process required a formal contract, which was never provided.
They claimed that even by February 27, no official contract had been issued. Around the same time, Muzarabani received an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders and decided to accept it.
The player’s camp insisted that he was neither selected in the PSL draft nor given a signed contract. They argued that a player cannot be accused of breaking an agreement that was never completed.
His representatives also described the two-year ban as too harsh and said it does not match punishments given in similar past cases. They urged the PSL authorities to review and withdraw the decision, calling it an administrative mistake rather than misconduct.
The statement also addressed online criticism, saying the negative reactions towards Muzarabani had gone too far.
Muzarabani, 29, has played only two matches so far for Kolkata Knight Riders after joining as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.
Reports suggest the ban was imposed after he chose to play in the IPL instead of the PSL, with the board considering it a breach of commitment.
