Islamabad: Pakistan has received approval for a $500 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This funding aims to strengthen the country’s economy, support foreign financing, and improve disaster and climate resilience programs.
Loan Program
The loan is part of the Climate and Disaster Resilience Enhancement Program (CDREP), signed between the Government of Pakistan and the ADB in November 2024. The program is designed to help Pakistan manage climate-related risks, improve disaster preparedness, and support long-term economic stability.
Funds Distribution
Officials confirm that the $500 million loan has been disbursed to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The funds are expected to strengthen Pakistan’s economic support systems and boost foreign exchange reserves.
ADB’s Ongoing Support
The ADB has worked with Pakistan for many years, funding projects in infrastructure, environmental protection, and public services. The bank has pointed out that Pakistan is highly vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters, which can result in annual losses of over $2 billion. This makes the CDREP loan an important step to help the country manage these risks.
Purpose Of Loan
According to the Finance Minister, This loan is specialized for the pension of old workers, as the yearly pensions budget crosses Rs. 1055. So this loan is named as Transformation Public Sector Pension Program.
