ISLAMABAD/LAHORE — Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has officially released a comprehensive Strategic Reform aimed at restoring the sport from years of decline to elite level.
Reform Plan Launched by Ad-Hoc Committee
In its first meeting, the PHF ad-hoc committee presented a detailed reform plan to modernize the federation, improve transparency, and expand development programs. Officials said the strategy focuses on strong governance, data-based talent identification, integrity, and professional management to rebuild hockey in Pakistan.
As part of the plan, the federation will be organised into six specialized departments — Finance, Marketing, Sports Medicine, High Performance, Human Resources, and International Liaison — each working under defined performance systems to improve efficiency.
Club Verification and Future Elections
The reform plan includes a 90-day review and verification of all affiliated hockey clubs across the country. This process will ensure membership compliance, financial transparency, and active participation, creating a verified list of voting units for upcoming elections..
Talent Development Initiatives Announced
Officials said the PHF will start a nationwide talent hunt in partnership with schools and universities. Trials will be held at both school and university levels, and players’ progress will be monitored through digital profiling to identify talented athletes for future national hockey teams.
Corporate Partnerships and Infrastructure Plans
In recent weeks, the federation has secured new corporate support, including a long-term sponsorship for the PTCL National Hockey League, along with partnerships aimed to enhance infrastructure and engage fans nationwide.
Pakistan Team’s Progress in FIH World Cup Qualifier
Along with the reform announcement, Pakistan’s national hockey team continued its strong run in the FIH Men’s World Cup Qualifier in Ismailia, Egypt. The team beat Malaysia 5–3 to reach the semi-finals, keeping their unbeaten record in the round-robin stage.
With this win, Pakistan has also climbed two places in the International Hockey Federation rankings, now sitting 12th in the world, reflecting recent on-field success.
Pakistan will play its next group match against Austria in the qualifier, with hopes of further progress in the competition.
