Islamabad: Federal Goverment has announced public holidays on the occassion of Eid ul Fitr, according the notification issued by the cabinet division.
The Cabinet Division announced the holidays as the PM Shehbaz Sharif declared Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21 as public holidays for Eid ul Fitr. These holidays will apply to government offices observing both five-day and six-day working weeks.
Eid expected on 21 March
According to experts Eid ul Fitr is likely to fall on 21 March, 2026, expected to complete 30 days of Ramadan.
According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to be born on March 19, 2026, at 06:23 PST.
SUPARCO further added that at sunset on March 19, the moon’s age will be about 12 hours and 41 minutes, with an estimated 28-minute interval between sunset and moonset along Pakistan’s coastal areas.
However, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision regarding the sighting of the Shawwal crescent and the official start of Eid ul Fitr along the country.
Pakistan Railways Announces Special Eid Trains
Although, Pakistan railway also announced special trains to facilitate passengers to return their hometown ahead of Eid ul Fitr.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said the first Eid special train will depart from Lahore to Karachi on March 16, while the second train will leave Quetta for Rawalpindi on March 17.
The third special train will travel from Karachi to Peshawar on March 17, and the fourth train will leave Karachi for Lahore on March 18 to handle the increased number of passengers during the holiday season.
