The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued NGMS/5G licenses to mobile network operators, allowing them to start commercial 5G services in the Pakistan.
According to the official statement, the license is issued to Jazz, Ufone, and Zong telecom companies. These companies are now authorized to launch next-gen mobile services in Pakistan.
5G Services to Launch in Phases
The PTA stated that telecom operators will introduce 5G services gradually instead of launching them nationwide at once.
This phased rollout will help ensure network stability and provide a better user experience. It will also allow operators to monitor performance and expand coverage step by step based on demand and technical readiness.
Operators Directed to Publish Coverage Areas
To improve transparency and keep users informed, the PTA has instructed all operators to publish updated lists of 5G service areas on their official websites.
These lists will show:
- Cities and locations where 5G is available
- Compatible 5G smartphone models approved for use in Pakistan
This will help users easily check whether 5G is available in their area and whether their device supports it.
5G Access Depends on Device Compatibility
The PTA clarified that only supported smartphones from approved manufacturers will be able to use 5G services.
Even in covered areas, service availability may vary depending on:
- Network readiness
- Location
- Device compatibility
